Today we talk to The First Ones a A spiky alt rock power trio, with a youthful exuberance and dark energy, we talk about their experiences as a new up and coming band & the Pros & Cons of being young musicians.

What’s the most memorable experience you’ve had as a band?

Will – That’s a hard one, it’d either be between the day at Hudds Uni doing the music videos \ recordings for CmR and OH, or doing MGS at Vibrations, or even one of our gigs at the Parish. There’s so many moments that are so memorable, for their own reasons, that’s what I love about performing and being in TFO.

Doug – One of our really early gigs we performed in a cow shed on an old trailer, which was a bit weird, I remember it also really stank. Also last year we performed at Bradford Dragonboat Festival and the gazebo we were under nearly blew away and it was driving rain. Also Will’s kit was a bit wobbly so he had to try and hold it together while playing.,

Do you have any advantages or disadvantages as a young band?

Will – I’d say it has both. It’s advantageous because we have more of a connection to our audience, who are around are age and slightly above, and have a good grasp of social media. Unfortunately , some people think that age equals ability, so being younger can dissuade people from listening to us and coming to our gigs. In some cases our age can also be negative as many venues are 18+ only and me and Doug are only recently 18 and Dan is still 16 so it can be a bit troublesome persuading venues to book us, also being so young we don’t have a lot of money to ourselves to spend on recording and PR, so we do have to rely on our parents for that kind of stuff, as well as ferrying between rehearsals and gigs, which we are very thankful and privileged to have.

If you could travel back in time and meet a 10yr old version of yourselves, what advice would you give yourselves?

Will – I’d probably tell him to practice his arse off, especially during lockdown and not dismiss rudiments as they’re really helpful. Also to listen to as many different bands as possible to find your style.

Doug – Play your own music, don’t be stuck playing covers, some stuff may blow up in your face but as long as you grow from it then its a success. Also don’t take yourself too seriously.

Dan – Be more confident and mobile while on stage. Find songs you enjoy playing and find your style, don’t stick to boring root notes.

Do you have any plans for releasing more music in the near future
Yep, we recently recorded a new single at Vibrations Studios in Lockwood, which we are hoping to get back from them very soon and release it! We absolutely loved recording it and hope everyone loves it as much as we do.
