FLEUR ROUGE
London-based Fleur Rouge is an upcoming alt-pop pioneer, who spills her heart into every song she writes. Her unique discography of upbeat hits with cut-throat lyrics is what sets her apart from the crowd, telling nothing but stone-cold facts with the prettiest of melodies. Her artist name originates from her favourite colour and honours her family’s French background, and I’m certain it’s a name we’ll be hearing a lot in the future!
What’s Your Background In Music?
Fleur started singing professionally when she was eleven, but she didn’t always make pop music.
“I went on tour singing opera, it was a really crazy experience and I’ll always be grateful for the training and foundations of technique it gave me as a singer.”
After getting to uni, she started writing songs in her room and collaborating with the musicians and producers around her. Since her debut single ‘Growing Pains’ in 2020, Fleur has built an alt-pop empire that just keeps growing!
What Is Your Biggest Achievement So Far?
Fleur has achieved many great things on her road to success, but a highlight she mentioned was getting her music on NME’s Bangers playlist on Spotify. On top of this, she has featured on BBC Radio 1, has performed to countless devoted audiences and continues to receive love from her online fans daily.
Who Are Your Biggest Inspirations In Music?
Fleur Rouge looks to the likes of Lana Del Rey, Upsahl, Halsey and Ashnikko for inspiration due to their powerful sound, and this manifests in her own music as experimental soundscapes and emotional imagery. For example, the sounds used in ‘Rabbit Hole’ evoke an uneasy and anxious feeling, and her latest single ‘Homesick’ uses synths and impactful percussion to reflect the feelings that coincide with childhood trauma.
When asked who she’d love to collaborate with in the future, Fleur responded with Yungblud, “I love his energy on stage and his aura is everything, I feel like we’d create something iconic”. She then goes on to mention how she is drawn to his songwriting, and how the topics he writes about speak to her, as well as making catchy tracks in general.
Recommend Me An Album/Single/Soundtrack
Fleur recommends ‘Born To Die: Paradise Edition’ by Lana Del Rey as it takes her straight back to a specific time in her life. The beauty of music is that it can transport you anywhere, and the memories attached to certain songs can live forever in their melodies. Fleur believes that Lana Del Rey does this brilliantly, stating “that’s what makes her so special, she takes you to this other world, that form of escapism”.
What’s Next?
Fleur’s latest single ‘Homesick’ is the first track on her upcoming project, and although the release date hasn’t been announced yet, we can expect great things from the future! This next body of work will be supplemented with more London gigs, “keep those eyes peeled, it’s coming!”
“Expect the sassy Rouge flavours with a hint of more vulnerability, it’s going to be more reflective but still fun and powerful. I’m working with a couple different producers on this project and you can expect more guitar, more sass, and some more of my silly stories. I can’t wait for this next era!”
