From the moment the doors opened at the Wood Street venue, the energy was electric. The showcase—curated by Kirklees Most Wanted (Saving Grace Collective) —didn’t just feel like a concert; it felt like a statement of intent for the local creative community.
Their intriguing band name originates from a book Finn was reading at the time, ‘Mistborn’ by Brandon Sanderson. The band loved the magical undertones that this title had, thus adapting it to the name we know them by now. After watching a documentary where flat earthers proved themselves wrong, we were inspired to start a movement to gain supporters for our own ridiculous theory – the earth is round, but is in fact the moon that is flat!
Inspired largely by motown and northern soul, Mason names The Beatles and Ed Sheeran to be his biggest influences. Using the musical techniques from both eras, Mason blends the vintage sound of the 60’s with the classic 2010’s songwriter style and creates something brand new, and there’s something in it for everyone.
When asked who she’d love to collaborate with one day, Anna responded with Jack Antonoff, “I would be so intrigued and curious as to what would come out of a session like that”. In addition, Anna mentioned how she would love to write with Olivia Dean and her writing team one day, “they have magic in their songwriting”.
Routes will explore the pivots, twists and turns that shape creative careers. It’s something that couldn’t feel more relevant for the creative industries at the moment and we feel it’s important to address, share and discuss with inspirational speakers from around the UK.
“I am over the moon to be putting on this gig as I feel like it has been a long time coming” CHAR mentioned, stating she is usually a perfectionist which can lead to putting shows like this off – now, she is learning to trust the process, leaning into the support she has from her band and those closest to her.
