Techno innovator Tony Phorse delivers the first single from the Highest Frequency Vol.2 album, the epic left-field banger Austerity Chamber. Drawing from the deepest depths of cutting-edge techno, Mr. Phorse takes us on a warped tour of a dark futuristic soundscape. Growling bass, scattered techno beats, hypnotic melody and an breakneck rhythm lock you in until the track’s close.
The track was made during countless days of lockdown when Tony confined himself to the studio. “Austerity Chamber is called that because I just felt trapped in the studio all the time, day in and day out,” says Mr. Phorse.
Not content to stop there, Phorse provides the non-album dual single Side Effect, made during the same period of isolated beat experimentation. Named after the fact that it was accidentally created from another production that was eventually scrapped, Side Effect is the more rhythmically belligerent cousin of Austerity Chamber.
Driving techno breaks and ominous bass guide us through a digital dystopia, contrasted by otherworldly melodies weaving in halfway through. Both cuts are a darker departure from Warm1, Tony’s standout contribution to Highest Frequency Vol.1. (He’s the only artist to appear on both albums for a reason!!)
Austerity Chamber and Side Effect have both gained support from Imogen on NTS Radio, Mode FM’s Drime, and Rinse FM’s Emerald – who gave Austerity Chamber its debut spin to a euphoric full house at London’s legendary Printworks.
The super dope 80s-inspired artwork shows Tony Phorse running through the austerity chamber, was created by designer Savvy.
