Sinead Campbell

Bradford-based songstress Sinead Campbell is this week’s interview, and what an interview it was! From supporting Arrested Development on tour, to opening doors in the industry and exciting upcoming releases, we learn all about Sinead and what she’s got planned for the future. If you’re a fan of Soul, Neo-Soul and Jazz Soul, Sinead Campbell is one to look out for.

What’s Your Background In Music?

Always having a passion for the arts, she worked hard to fund music lessons for herself. She started her journey in musical theatre, and soon found a love for songwriting after pursuing performing arts.

“I do feel that if you love something enough, and it’s meant for you, then you can make it happen.”

In recent years, Sinead has become a Bradford music lead, developing the local music sector, as well as being the chair of strategic steering groups and curating her own music festivals.

“Considering I hadn’t come from a musical background, I feel proud of myself. I’ve always just thrown myself into the deep end.”

What’s Your Biggest Achievement So Far?

After supporting Arrested Development on their UK tour, and sharing lineups with artists such as Basement Jaxx and Soul II Soul, Sinead took some time away from music in 2024 to rebrand and start fresh. Now, with her new artist name, energy and values, Sinead is ready to take the industry by storm once again.

“Rebranding is the best thing I ever did!”

Who Are Your Biggest Inspirations In Music?

Sinead claims that her biggest inspirations are any artists who have been courageous, vulnerable and brave in their output. She goes on to mention how soul singers from the 60’s and 70’s give her goosebumps, tapping into something deep in her soul.

“I love voices such as Otis Redding and Bill Withers, and I also admire artists like David Bowie and Kate Bush as well as strong characters like Nina Simone and Erykah Badu. All of these people have a real strong sense of identity and confidence in their art and craft.”

In addition to this, Sinead highlights her admiration for artists who put positive messages out into the world.

“Music is such a powerful tool, so why not use it for a good cause?”

If You Could Collaborate With Any Artist In The World, Who Would It Be And Why?

Sinead mentioned how she would love to collaborate with both Nile Rogers and Rick Rubin, stating that “Rick has so much wisdom and I would be intrigued to see what we could create together”. And that’s not all, as Sinead would also love to explore collaborations with artists like Mungo’s Hi Fi, Shy FX and Nia Archives – she mentions that “as a soul singer, I am interested in exploring the elements of black British music”.

Recommend Me A Single/Album/Soundtrack

“My Sunday-morning-chill-out soundtrack is anything Lovers Rock, I find the tracks so nostalgic and I always feel more connected to my heritage and roots when I listen to that genre. I always feel warm and fuzzy inside, and more relaxed.”

Sinead explains how she is a very nostalgic person in general, and therefore enjoys the comfort that Lovers Rock brings to her each time she listens. We all have a genre that speaks to our soul! As well as this, Sinead gives a special shout-out to the British band Ezra Collective, stating she enjoys listening to them regularly.

What’s Next?

Sinead’s latest single “Stand” was released on the 29th May, a soulful, addictive track about standing up for what you love. “Stand” is to be followed by a series of singles leading to her EP release later this year!
